Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted Can be substituted with coconut oil for a Halal-friendly option.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Finishing Touches
  • 3/4 cup pearl sugar Essential for the classic Liège waffle texture.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and the yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs and add the melted butter and vanilla extract to the activated yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.
  4. Slowly add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Don’t overmix; you want a soft dough.
  5. Gently fold in the pearl sugar until evenly distributed.
  6. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Scoop the desired amount of dough onto your preheated waffle iron (about 1/2 cup per waffle) and cook until golden brown, usually about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Remove the waffles carefully and serve warm with your preferred toppings.

Notes

Store leftover waffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze them for up to one month. Reheat in a toaster or in an oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
